Theme for May: “God of Hope”

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. – Romans 15:13

WMC Corner Update

By Phyllis Di Bella

“and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:4-5

As I meditate on these scriptures, I am drawn to the action words – fill, believe, abound, pour and give. I am reminded that my God of Hope is a God of action. He is not passive in my life when I allow Him in and fix my eyes on Him. He wants to fill me with His joy and peace, pour His love into my heart, give me the power of His Holy Spirit, and allow me to abound in hope. So now, I cannot remain passive either; I must take action!

Recently in reading a passage in My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers, I was reminded that my hope in God is always certain. The circumstances and situations I face daily, weekly, monthly are most often uncertain, but certainty in my life remains in my God. To quote Chambers, “To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways, we do not know what a day may bring forth.” Can I still take action and do what He calls me to do? Yes, and with certainty that He will lead and guide me as I follow Him one step at a time prayerfully and expectantly doing what I know to do at the given moment. Has He been there for me in the past? Yes, so I can believe and trust He will be there in the present. As Romans 12:12 reminds me, I must, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” My enduring through the trials of this life will produce the character that will give me the hope in Him.

My prayer for all of us this month, as we focus on our God of Hope, is that we would take a moment to see Him in a new light. Take a look at our lives and reflect on how He gives us hope every day. Recount the answered prayers, the resolved situations, the restored relationships, the unmerited blessings that we take for granted and forget to give Him the glory. Actively give testimony to others of the joy and peace we have in serving Him and allow the power of His Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with hope.

  • Notes of Encouragement to Pauline Rohman –  95th Birthday!
Pauline Rohman, a member of New Life for many years, turns 95 on May 14.  Since Dec. 2014, she has been in a nursing home.  Her 3 kids and 2 sons-in-law spend lots of time visiting and taking her on outings; however, it’s a difficult place to be.  Pauline’s family hopes to encourage her with lots of cards for her 95th birthday, especially from families at New Life that know her personally.  If you’re able, it would be wonderful for her to receive a note of encouragement, including an update on your family, and if possible, a photo or two to help her remember you.  Her family is thankful that she still has her long-term memory.  Pauline’s family expresses their gratitude to all who have been long-time friends to Pauline and her family: Nancy and Frank, Debbie and Mike, and Peter. For her address, contact: Katie Crawford | katie.titus@gmail.com
