Theme for July: Freedom In Christ

Reflection: “Christ Has Set Us Free”

This month we celebrate our Nation’s adoption of the Declaration of Independence when our young America declared itself no longer part of the British Empire, but a new nation, proving to be “a day of deliverance.” (John Adams). On June 7, 1776, Richard Henry Lee of Virginia introduced a resolution to the Continental Congress.  A portion of the Lee Resolution declares: “Resolved:  That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.”

As believers in Christ Jesus, we too have a declaration of resolution of a sort-   Resolved: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery…for sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” (Galatians 5:1, Romans 6:14).  July 4th is an excellent time to remember that freedom comes with a cost.  Let us recognize those men and women who have given their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.  Such sacrifice deserves our sincere appreciation.  Freedom from sin and death wasn’t free either.  Our Savior, Jesus Christ, gave His life ‘’to save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).  He fought our battle for freedom on the cross.  His blood covers us & makes us whiter than snow, He paid what we couldn’t and was victorious over sin & death so we can have life everlasting. So as we remember our Nation’s birthday this month, join me in gratefulness and humility as we enjoy this blessed gift of freedom, remembering that in Christ we have been set free never to be slaves again.

John 8:36 – “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

  • Desserts and Debuts | Saturday, August 13th, 6:30-8:00pm {Krystal Dowell’s House}
    Come join us for a night of dessert and fellowship at Desserts and Debuts.  We will spend a relaxing evening outside mingling with friends and sampling delicious desserts. We will also hear from a number of New Life ministries that will be “debuting” or starting up again this fall.     Just a friendly reminder for the ladies who have already been nominated and accepted for the 2016 training to mark your calendars.  All training sessions are scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of every month through Dec.  We look forward to seeing you!

BIBLE STUDIES

  • Women’s Summer Study: Ruth | Offered Tuesday Mornings (9:30-11:30am) & Tuesday Evenings (7-9pm) {Room 217}
    It’s not to late to join! Join us July 26th as we dive into the Chapter 2 of Ruth using the study guide Ruth by Kathleen Nielson.  The study is offered Tuesday Mornings (9:30-11:30am w/ babysitting provided) OR Tuesday evenings (7-9pm) on the following dates: June 21, June 28, July 12, July 26, August 2, and August 9.  The book can be purchased through Amazon for $8.99 (and can be used for the Fall Titus II Study of Esther!)  If you need babysitting, please contact Amy Auker.  If you plan to participate in the morning or evening study, please let one of the leaders know so we can plan accordingly!  Amy Auker will be leading the morning study; Gale Puffenberger and Jessica Peters will be leading the evening study. Contact: Amy Auker | amy.auker@gmail.com or Gale Puffenberger | hpuffen@aol.com
  • Titus 2 | Sign-Up July 24, 31, & August 7 {Church Foyer}
    Attention, ladies!  Titus 2 sign-ups are coming soon and will be available July 24, 31 and August 7 in the church foyer.  New Life’s Titus 2 Ministry would like to invite you to join in our 7-part study of  the book of Esther beginning this fall. Titus 2 is a ministry of women gathering together for discipleship, fellowship and prayer with the purpose of sharing our lives and encouraging one another in our walk with God.  Each group begins with a meal, followed by time of studying God’s word and sharing our insights, and ending with time of prayer for each other. Groups meet monthly in various locations and at various times.  We hope there is a time that is right for you.  Please consider joining us!

INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

  • Pastor Doug’s 70th Birthday & Open House | Sunday, July 24 following the evening service {Kenmore Park}
    Please join us as we celebrate Pastor Doug’s 70th Birthday on Sunday, July 24 following the evening service.  Mary Jane will be hosting the Open House at Kenmore Park across the street from their home.  (In case of rain, the Open House will be relocated to NLICC.)  If able, please bring a taco fixing and/or ice cream fixing.  Volunteers would be greatly appreciated to help set-up and clean-up.  Also, please bring a lawn chair and a card, if you desire.  If you have any questions, please contact Mary Jane or Amy Auker.  Contact: Mary Jane Kittredge or Amy Auker | amy.auker@gmail.com
  • Osiecki Reception | Sunday, July 31, Following the Evening Service {Fireside Room}
    Join us in celebrating the Osieckis’ service as missionaries. We will have a reception in the Fireside Room at 7 pm following the evening service.   • Sewing & Quilting Ministry is hosting a KIDS SEWING BOOT CAMP! | Tues. – Thurs., Aug. 9th – 11th, 9:30am – 12:30pm {Room 100} 
    Kids will be learning sewing basics, and each day will learn a new technique building on what was learned the previous day! OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY

  • Food Pantry {Items can be dropped off in foyer in bin marked Food Pantry}
    The food pantry needs jelly (grape, strawberry, apple)! Would you consider adding a jar to your weekly shopping list? Any brand and size is fine.  Other ongoing needs are: cereal, microwave popcorn, soup, canned vegetables, canned meats (roast beef, tuna, meatballs, sausage, ham), pickles, macaroni & cheese, floss, lotion, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and face soap.  Contact: Connie Both  bothclan@cox.net

  • Moving Assistance for Pam Lopes

  • College Ministry Needs

  • Ironing Board for Manse

  • Church Kitchen Cleaning
    A clean and organized church kitchen allows for us to continue so many ministry endeavors — care groups, receptions, luncheons, daily use by the church staff and Covenant School, etc.  This once-a-month rotation of 1-3 volunteers allows us to deep clean, maintain, and organize a heavily used church resource so it can continued to be used well.  Sign-up with a friend or get to know someone new by serving together in this way!  You can access the sign-up hereContact: Christine Fulcrod | 540-746-4848 | nlicc@nlicc.org
  • Bulletin Folding
