My 1st Week {and 1 Day} of Marriage
By Amy Auker
“One generation shall praise Your works to another,
And  shall declare Your mighty acts.”
Psalm 145:4
Cameron and I were married in July 2011. While I don’t remember much about the actual day of our wedding besides that it was the hottest day of the entire summer (105°) and that I was just delighted to finally become Cameron’s wife… I do remember a great deal of that first week.
I remember packing up my car with the last of my belongings at my parents’ home in Northern Virginia. I remember waving good-bye to my parents for the “last” time. I remember the drive down to Fredericksburg and wondering what my new home would be like. I had only been to Fredericksburg a handful of times and only knew of one friend in area. I remember attending my first Friday morning bible study with friends that would become very dear to Cameron and myself. But, most of all, I remember the first Sunday I attended New Life with Cameron, just one week (and one day) after we were married.
From the moment we entered the church, we felt welcomed. As we entered the lobby, we were greeted by friendly faces, handed a hymnal, and given a bulletin. Cameron had been to New Life once by himself, and, as the ‘veteran’, he ushered us toward that back corner where the young adults sit. Cameron had been invited to attend New Life by his co-worker, Eric Schroeder, and we found seats near them. I remember chatting with Sarah Schroeder for the first time. At some point, they mentioned something about their care group hosting a potluck for new visitors after the service.
Pastor Doug preached that Sunday morning. I remember him mentioning something about his wife, Mary Jane. So, after the service, when the very Mrs. Mary Jane Kittredge came and introduced herself to me, I was floored! See, when I was 11 years old, my family started going to church. We started attending a large, non-denominational church. To this day, I have never seen the pastor’s wife, nevertheless met the pastor’s wife. So, to be greeted by Mary Jane was such a special moment. After meeting Mary Jane and eventually joining their care group for lunch after the service… I distinctively remember feeling very at home at New Life during that very meal. That meal was so special to me because it was very evident to me that New Life could become a family for us. When my parents separated when I was 12, our house never truly felt like a home again. Meals were no longer shared at the table. And, a member of our family was gone. I remember driving home from New Life that afternoon and us reflecting on the service and the fellowship. From our first Sunday, we felt as though New Life could be our church home.
This July will be 4 years since Cameron and I first started attending New Life. Since 2011, we’ve had the opportunity to be blessed by the fellowship with the young adults and then the Pages’ care group, to enjoy Sandy Pruchnic’s Molasses Crinkle Cookies, and to rejoice as our son, Levi, was born into this covenant family. We continually praise God for providing a wonderful church (so quickly into our marriage) that so continues to feel like family to us. As we approach New Life’s 40th Anniversary this July, I pray that we would praise God for the fellowship that has endured for 40 years. I pray that our banquet in July would be a time of rejoicing as we celebrate God’s faithfulness. I pray that we would remember that this was the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.
This was the LORD’S doing;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
Psalm 118:23

UPDATE: Manse Apartment Needs for Spring 2015
The Lord has certainly been faithful with how He has provided for our manses, formerly known as modular apartments. As we prepare to provide housing for several pastoral interns, we desire to furnish the manse that is now currently vacant. Clarification #1: Please note that THIS manse was formerly the home of the Greenbergs who had provided their own furniture. (The manse that Sammie currently resides still has the furniture that was so graciously donated at the time that the Clark family lived there in the Spring of 2014.) Clarification #2: As we prayerfully seek to provide housing for several interns, there are furnishing needs for several master bedrooms. The deacons and members of the WM committee have assessed the needs for the manse. If you are able to donate gently used (or new) furnishings and new cleaning supplies, please click here. If you have questions regarding delivery of furniture and/or specific needs listed, please contact the deacon on call. We are grateful for all of your support of this ministry as we try to support the deacons with this endeavor. Thank you also for your prayers as the church seeks new interns. Contact: Larry Root (Deacon on Call for 4/12-4/18)
