A Community that Pursues
by Sarah Schroeder
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10: 24-25
I remember my first Sunday at New Life well. Eric and I had been married for two years and moved to the Fredericksburg area as he started a job in Dahlgren. We had been attending a PCA church in Blacksburg, VA and our pastor there recommended a few of the PCA churches in the Fredericksburg area. It had taken 6 months for us to find a church in Blacksburg, and that felt entirely too long to be without a church home. We agreed that we wanted to get plugged into a church much more quickly in Fredericksburg and prayed that the Lord would make His will clear in our search for a church.
Our second Sunday in Fredericksburg, we visited New Life. There were so many things that spoke to us and encouraged our hearts. We were excited to see a vibrant music ministry, which was something that was important to us. We found that the sermon had a solid scriptural focus with depth and application. But, what stands out to me the most was what happened after the service. As new visitors often do, we exited the sanctuary and slipped quietly by the line of people. After all, we weren’t sure if this was definitely going to be our church home and talking to all those strangers was not my strong suit. We left the building and headed towards our car. About halfway across the parking lot, I heard someone shouting, “Wait! Wait!” I turn around to see Pastor Doug chasing us into the parking lot. I motioned to Eric saying, “I think the pastor is trying to talk to us!” Pastor Doug caught up to us and greeted us with his warm smile and encouraging words. I chuckled to myself as we got into the car – now that is a living example of God’s relentless pursuit of us!
We did not try any other churches after that Sunday. New Life was our home. Over the past 5 years, we have seen God pursue us through His people at New Life. One of His biggest blessings was leading us to become a part of the young professionals care group even though we were one of the only married couples at the time. The people in our care group are dear to us and have become some of our closest friends, walking beside us through many joys and many sorrows over the years. We are thankful for the way that God pursues us, often times through the community of believers He has placed in our lives. We have been spurred on and encouraged by each of you!

Book of Testimonies in Honor of the 40th Anniversary | Due by May 31
New Life in Christ Church invites you to share your (story) testimony of God’s faithfulness for a Book of Testimonies the Church is planning to publish for the 40th Anniversary. The objective of these testimonies will be to illustrate “How God has used New Life in Christ Church in Individual Lives.” The title of the book will be taken from Psalms 118:23, “This is the Lords doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” Each testimony should be under 750 words, connected to a specific scripture, and give God the glory. It is our desire that these testimonies will be an inspiration to others, provide them hope, and even lead them to the saving grace of our Lord. Coordinator of the project is Gary Mangus. Please send your submissions to him at (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you have any questions, contact Gary by telephone (540-785-0503). As soon as you can get your testimony in the better; but we must have them by 31 May. There is no restriction on age and don’t worry about your writing ability; we’ll ensure your testimony is edited and read by you before publishing. Take this opportunity to share what God has done for you and your family through New Life in Christ Church. Contact: Gary Mangus
