Women’s Update – July 10, 2014

Untold Lives Touched for God

by Connie Both

“So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”
Matthew 18:14

I grew-up in Western Pennsylvania attending a small Presbyterian country church.  We had some great events like the Mother/Daughter Banquet for Mother’s Day.  But the highlight of the year was Vacation Bible School.  We held it in the evenings, so the menfolk could also help.  VBS was for all ages, right up through adult.  And we attracted quite the crowd.  My little church of 60 would have 150 kids for a week.  It was a great time of outreach with plenty of crafts and worship, but also much evangelizing.  We invited all the families to come on the last night for a huge bonfire and hotdog roast.  Folks would mingle and stay late.  Then Sunday evening we had a program with each class singing songs, reciting memory verses, and a wrap-up puppet show.  All the week’s crafts were out on tables for display and pick-up.  Those nights are etched in my memory since it was the only time my dad would go to church.  My brother and I were always so excited about what we had done, that we would urge dad in our young voices to please come and see, and he would.

The church put a lot of effort into the week with every person in the congregation involved somehow, but it was also a fabulous time of fellowship and outreach.  When I was 12, I gave my life to the Lord at VBS.  Susan McGinness, my teacher, led me in prayer.  Susan and her husband went on to lead the Junior/Senior High Sunday School class and was a great influence in my life.

We similarly have a wonderful opportunity coming up to influence young lives.  VBS starts July 21st.  There is still a dire need for helpers in the nursery and with the 2 and 3 year old class of the children of the VBS workers.  Please consider helping even if it’s just for a morning or two.  Contact Carrrie Verbosky to volunteer or to answer any questions you have.  If you are unable to attend, there are also snack and craft items that are being requested.  Please check the clipboard in the foyer for what is needed.  Do what you can!  Don’t let this opportunity pass you by to bless the life of one of His children.

About Connie:  Connie and her husband Bill have been attending New Life for almost 9 years.  Their seven children have been involved in most of the ministries of the church, including VBS.

From Kathryne:
This summer we have much to offer thanks and prayers for in the life of our church. We celebrate new babies, marriages, members, and missions trips, and we grieve challenging difficulties including the loss of Whitney Haynie’s baby girl Jubilee, members’ illnesses, accidents, and surgeries. The Lord allows these growing seasons of joy and abundance planted right alongside the trials and the extra toil needed to nurture the Body.  We are unable to meet the numerous ministry needs by ourselves.  But as each of us shares our talents, gifts, prayers, and love, we help to carry one another’s joys, sorrows, and burdens.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2
