Matthew 5:6

What do you really want out of life, and will it satisfy you? The world says that we can
be satisfied by money, power, fame, or success. Many have sought after those things
only to find themselves emptyhanded and regretful. Others have sought after those
things and oppressed the people around them. In today’s passage, Jesus shows
where true satisfaction comes from: through hungering and thirsting for righteousness
(Isaiah 55:1-2; John 7:37-38). As we continue our study through the Beatitudes, we
will see how the attitudes of God’s kingdom (Matthew 5:3-5) shape our motivations
(Matthew 5:6). What does it mean to hunger for righteousness, and how will God
satisfy it?
