NLIC Weekend Newsletter (9/11/20) – Starting New Fall Ministries

Starting Up This Week

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:14–17)

Youth Groups – High and and Middle School

Middle (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) youth groups meet this Sunday at 4:30 PM and finish around 5:50 PM. They will meet outside at the pavilion. Masks are not required, but temperatures will be taken. As always, we ask that students who have COVID symptoms, or have been exposed to those with COVID symptoms remain home.

Youth groups will be in person, except for the first Sunday of the month, when we will be on Zoom.

We will have a Parents Meeting at 4:30 in the Fireside Room.

Care Groups

Care Groups start on Monday. These are our small groups for growth. We will study the passage from Sunday, pray together, and help one another carry our burdens. If you haven’t signed up, sign up now. Most will have some sort of a Zoom option, and some will be in person as well.

Your Care Group leaders should contact you about your Care Group. If you don’t hear from a Care Group leader, contact Pastor Sam.

Pioneer Girls

Our girls’ discipleship ministry will start Wednesday. PreK-6th grade will be online via Zoom while our older grades (7th-12th) will meet outside at the church. We meet this week at 4 PM. Contact Sharon Leaman, Heather O’Hara or Andrea Sanderson if you want to connect with this group.

Boys Brigade

Our boys’ discipleship ministry (age 4 through 12th grade) will have an organizational meeting by Zoom this Wednesday at 7 PM. We will start the following week (9/23) by meeting outside. Contact Bruce Leaman or myself if you have questions.

Middle School Retreat

Our 6th-8th graders are invited to attend our Middle School retreat on Friday and Saturday where they will learn how to be a “Friend of God”. Bob and Dayra Rumbaugh are leading the group with a crew of volunteers. Register with the church office and pick up a permission slip and health check from the church office. We will discuss this at our parents meeting Sunday.

Special Event – Dave Eubanks and Free Burma Rangers

Don’t just tune this “missionary story” out, because it is more like a high powered action event. We have a pretty amazing opportunity to hear from David Eubanks and his family and learn about this amazing ministry on Friday evening, starting at 5:30 PM. The Eubanks family are missionaries, serving on the front lines of helping suffering people escape war-zones through the world. It’s full of Christ-centered witness and adventure.  You will laugh and cry while you are on the edge of your seat.

I plan to be there.

Our plan is to screen the film (sanctuary), Free Burma Rangers, at 5:30 and meet Dave and his family after the film. I’ve seen it and I highly recommend seeing it. Just so you know, there are scenes of real world violence and war casualties. I watched it with my family and I felt it was okay for us (my youngest is 11) but you will have to judge for yourself.

You are welcome to invite others. I would love to fill our church with people to enjoy this film. The Eubanks family does very important work in the Lord.

To find out more, contact Erica Kararaie or the church office and we can put you in touch with her.
