Theme for April: “New Beginnings”

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”  2 Corinthians 5:17

WMC Corner Update

What freedom I have in Christ when He draws me to the realization that He has given me this new life in Him! He has made me a new creation. Each year at Easter as I celebrate His Resurrection, I am reminded once again that it is a time to celebrate new beginnings. The steadfast love of the lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23) So I ponder the concept of new beginnings again this year in the light of the “power of His resurrection” and His great faithfulness to me.

Does this necessarily mean life will be free of worry and my burdens will be gone? I will see all things in my life “fall into place” according to my desires and perspective? I will awaken each morning to the newness of spring and the sound of birds chirping on my window sill? Probably those sentiments are the furthest possible from the reality of this life. So then, what does this idea of new life or new beginnings mean to me who is in Christ, who professes to be a new creation?

As I ponder the thought, it takes me back to the freedom I have knowing I am His child and all He has planned for me is part of His providence for my life. It leads me to this verse. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” If He has already planned out my day, week, and life and given me the things I should do, then shouldn’t I have the freedom, the confidence to move forward as a new creation in Him and see each day as a new beginning? A new opportunity to serve Him, to love my neighbor, to minister to my sister in the Lord, to share the Good News of salvation with those He places in my path? I challenge all of us, myself included, to view each day as a new opportunity to “put off the old self with its practices” and abide in His love and His plans for your life.

Phyllis Di Bella, for the WMC
