Becoming True Women
Summer Girls’ Study
“… our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.”
This summer we embarked on a study of womanhood with girls of the church from rising 6th grade to age 14. The girls spent their Sunday afternoons with various women of the church, eating in their homes and studying Susan Hunt’s book Becoming a True Woman while I’m Trying to Make it through Middle School. They studied the woman’s role as helper and life-giver in the familiy, the church and community and some of the actions that reflect her redemption: serving, helping others live for God’s glory, glorifying God in their relationships, encouraging others, accepting others, forgiving others, comforting others and loving the church. They looked at some character qualities that grow out of a life redeemed by Jesus: purity, piety, domesticity, and submission. Here’s what some had to say:
“Hi it’s Juliana and I had a fun time at Girls bible study and I hope to do it again next year. My favorite thing I did at the study was the crafts and helping get ready for V.B.S. I had SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Much fun!!!!!!!!!!” -Juliana H.
“I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed seeing my friends and getting to know them better. I got to meet some of the women in the church. It was cool to learn about the way women were made and our design as a helper.” – Anna P.
“What I liked most about our Bible study was getting to know all the women that volunteered to teach the lessons and host us in their homes. Each time, on the car ride to the hostesses’ home we would be just as quiet as can be, but then on the way back to church we would be sharing stories and laughing. I hope we’ll be able to do another Bible study soon. I enjoyed it very much!” – Grace O’

Child Protection Plan Compliance
If you are 18 and older and serve as a nursery volunteer, you are required to submit an online application in accordance with NLICC Child Protection Plan (https://www.ministryopportunities.org/NewLifeChrist). Upon completion of the application you will receive an email to requiring you to go through a training video and short quiz at the end. If you have any questions about this process you may contact Jack Burrows, the Child Protection Coordinator. Pastor Sean has asked that all ministries be at 100% compliance by August 31st. The Nursery is 20% currently, we need your help! Take some time to do this and please encourage your friends, spouse or older children who may be in contact with children in ministry at church to complete this as well.
Omission from last week’s Update:
It just goes to show how many people it takes to put on a successful VBS – I omitted the Music team and Kitchen team that provided snacks for the kids and refreshments for the volunteers for my list of volunteers. VBS is a BIG endeavor and we are so thankful for all who contribute, which brings to mind the folks who brought their neighbors and friends, those who contributed food items… I would never get them all. Please forgive my oversight.
Continue to pray over the ministry opportunity sheet in the bulletin this week, that the Lord would fill the vacant slots with willing hearts. Feeling disconnected from the church? Consider serving. What role is the Lord called you to play? Ask ministry heads how you might help them in smaller ways. Call Pam in the office and sign up for a Friday to fold bulletins. Let Laurie Burrows know if you’d be willing to help occasionally with Children’s Church or as a substitute with Sunday School. Substitutes and nursery help are needed for Christ Covenant School, let Barb Plating know of your availability Mondays or Wednesdays. Pursue your Child Protection Training in order to be available serve in any capacities involving our children.
Enjoy your Summer, pray for our ministry leaders as the gear up for September!
in His grace,
for the Women’s Ministry Committee
