Dear New Life in Christ Church Family,
Grace and peace to you in our Lord Jesus Christ. Our God is a mighty God and He is doing a great shaking upon the earth. We believe this will produce great spiritual fruit as people are coming to Christ around the world. As you know, government officials want to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus and they have requested that group sizes be kept to 10 people or less. In light of these requests and concerns for the health and safety of all our members, we have adjusted our schedule considerably.
While we cannot all meet together on Sunday morning, we will continue to Live Stream the services through the website. We believe that the worship of God is absolutely critical at this time. Our Father and Lord calls us to worship and to look up to Him. He calls us to set aside worry for prayer. As our God, He deserves our worship. As His creatures, we need to enter worship. His sovereignty is our source of strength in times of trouble.
We will Live Stream our morning service on the church webpage, which means we are asking everybody to watch it at home. We are asking that no one come to church for Sunday worship, except those who are essential to the production of the Live Stream.
“Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’” (Isaiah 46:8–10)
The elders met and put together a three week plan and will reevaluate for Easter Sunday.
- The Morning Service: Live Stream only on March 22, March 29, and April 5.
The only people who will be at church are those needed to do the service and Live Stream.
LInk: www.nlicc.org/watchlive/ || (Instructions to Live Stream are below).
- Adult Sunday School will be by Live Stream only on March 22, and March 29.
April 5 Sunday School is cancelled.
- Evening Service: Cancelled through April 5.
- Good Friday Service: April 10 is cancelled.
- Retreats: College Retreat and YOWAW are cancelled.
- Youth Group is cancelled until April 5.
- I encourage Bible Studies and Care Groups to meet using Zoom for prayer (www.zoom.com) rather than face to face.
- The session has a meeting on April 3 to reevaluate the situation at that point.
In light of the cancellations:
- Giving: Your giving is critical in continuing the spread of the gospel locally and around the world. To give, we suggest our secure online giving tool (https://www.nlicc.org/giving/). You can mail checks in or make drop offs at the office between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM.
- Faith Promise commitments: can be emailed, phoned in, or mailed in. Email your Faith Promise commitments to firstname.lastname@example.org. The church phone number is 540-786-4848. Our address is 11925 Burgess Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22407
- We will continue our missions month theme. We will postpone honoring Billy and Yashmin for their service until later this summer. We will reschedule Super Sunday as well.
Community and Compassion:
- For Fun: Let’s try to use a new hashtag for church events! Are you posting something church-related to social media? Encourage others by using the hashtag #NlicAlive
- Compassion: Please pay attention to the needs of the people around you. What is happening with your neighbors? Throughout history God has used believers like you and me to reach out in mercy and compassion. What opportunities do you have for that? It could be as easy as a phone call or a visit to an elderly neighbor’s house. Offer to pick up groceries for someone who can’t get out.
- Pray: This is a time of prayer. We will set aside Monday, March 23 as another day of fasting and prayer. We will make materials available for you to use. I don’t know about you, but reading the news or social media makes me anxious! It is far better to pray, to find productive things to do, and limit news intake to a strategic 30 minutes a day. We have enormous needs in our congregation and community. We want to pray to God for a breakthrough.
- Connect: Maybe you have a good idea about reaching out to others, try it out and let me know how it works. The coronavirus is a health threat, but so is depression, loneliness and isolation. Find a virtual way to connect with others! Offer to bring groceries to those in need.
- I have included the inserts for the Children’s Poster Design and the Faith Promise for you and your children.
I am so thankful for our elders and deacons and their love, diligence, and hard work. You may not think this, but we are probably busier than ever in addressing this situation! They are so faithful to their calling in their availability at all hours of the day, so if you need anything, whether it is for prayer or for something practical, please reach out to your shepherd elder, to the church staff (540-786-4848), or to the deacons (https://goo.gl/forms/wZ8miuU2BptSmOtG3).
Thanks for taking time to read this rather lengthy letter. I am thankful for each of you, for God’s work in your lives, for your commitment to each other and your commitment to the work of the gospel. You are dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and we rejoice that God has brought us together.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
