John 10: 11-18

History is full of leaders who failed in their responsibility and took advantage of others instead of leading them. Where can we find good leadership? Jesus answers by telling us, “I am the good shepherd”. He is the standard of God’s perfect leadership. “Shepherding” has a long history in Israel, with God promising to correct the failures of poor leadership by being a shepherd to God’s people (Ezekiel 34:1-24). This “I am” statement of Jesus shows that He is the shepherd who cares for us in Psalm 23, the one who has already proven His love for us. The question is: will we live under His care? Or will we do our own thing? Once we know what His care looks like, how could we want anything else?
